Progress being made to appoint Eskom CEO - newsroom - 17-04-2014 Eskom’s board is making progress in appointing a permanent CEO. In a statement on Wednesday, the electricity utility said it was making good progress to appoint a candidate for the job, which has seen Collin Matjila appointed as the acting chief executive since the end of March. “The board is making good process with the appointment of a permanent CEO and will commence interviews with potential candidates next week,†Zola Tsotsi, chairman of the Eskom board said on Wednesday. Tsotsi said it was prudent to select a candidate with suitable credentials from among the entity’s board members, so as to allow management to continue to focus on operations. “Given the on-going challenge of balancing electricity demand with constrained supply, it was prudent not to diminish operational management capacity in any way. “Mr Matjila was a unanimous decision by the board, based on his deep knowledge of and experience in the electricity industry emanating from his previous role as chairman of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa and from his current role as Eskom board member,†said Tsotsi. Matjila graduated with a BA degree in Law from the University of Lesotho and an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1988. He has conveyed to the board that he would not be interested in a permanent role as chief executive of Eskom. – SAnews.gov.za |
